What is CBG?
CBG, cannabigerol, is a cannabinoid naturally occurring in cannabis. Although the CBG content in the adult plant is less than 1%, it is essential for its entire development. Its acidic form, CBGA, cannabigerol acid, serves as a precursor to other cannabinoids, including the well-known CBD and THC. This is why CBG is often referred to as the 'mother of cannabinoids'.
Chemical structure of CBG
CBG has the molecular formula C21H32O2, so it contains 21 carbon, 32 hydrogen and 2 oxygen atoms. Its structure is monocyclic. It has a terpene chain which gives it hydrophobic properties and the ability to easily penetrate cell membranes.
How is CBG obtained?
Immature cannabis plants have a high content of CBGA, cannabigeroleic acid - which is transformed into cannabinoids such as CBD or THC during maturation. Only a small amount of the acid is decarboxylated when exposed to heat or UV light, losing the carboxyl group (-COOH) and turning into the active form of CBG.
How much CBG is produced in the plant affects:
- The genetics of the plant - genetic predispositions determine which cannabinoids a given cannabis variety will contain and in what amounts.
- Temperature and UV - by controlling the heat and light conditions, the amount of CBG in cannabis can be influenced.
- Harvest time - if the cannabis is harvested young, CBGA will not have time to fully transform into cannabinoids. Immature plants contain high amounts of CBGA, which can then be converted to CBG by decarboxylation.
Growers who want to get the most CBG, therefore:
- They breed varieties with higher CBG content.
- It harvests the plants before they are fully ripe. The downside, however, is lower yields, which raises the price of the extract.
- Extracted through modern methods - advanced technology allows the isolation of CBG with high purity.
How does CBG work?
Cannabinoids in the human body interact primarily with the endocannabinoid system in the human body. CBG is no exception.
In this system, it primarily affects α2-adrenoceptors, TRPV1 and GPR55 receptors, through which it can regulate blood pressure, reduce pain and inflammation, and even exert anticancer effects.
CBG also affects the major receptors of the endocannabinoid system, CB1 and CB2. Although it does not activate them directly, it modulates them.
Effects of CBG
We now know what receptors CBG interacts with and what affects those receptors, but what are its specific effects on human health?
Antibacterial effects
CBG has strong antibacterial properties, especially against gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans, which causes tooth decay. It limits the mobility of bacteria and interferes with their communication. It can destroy entire bacterial biofilms, even those for which conventional disinfection and antibiotics are not sufficient.
Promoting skin health
The antibacterial properties of cannabigerol could be essential in skin care. Additionally, research from 2022 suggests that CBG may be more effective than CBD in fighting inflammatory skin conditions such as sunburn or acne. The study also showed that it has significant antioxidant and moisturizing properties - it reduces reactive oxygen radicals more effectively than vitamin C while significantly minimizing transepidermal water loss.
CBG does not interfere with the skin's natural microflora and meets the standards for preservatives in cosmetic products, thus appearing as a promising ingredient for innovative dermatological and skin care products.
Neuroprotective properties
Studies show that CBG is neuroprotective and has a positive effect on motor function - it promotes antioxidant production, suppresses inflammation and protects nerve cells from oxidative stress damage.
Research from 2015 focused on the effectiveness of CBG in fighting Huntington's disease. The results showed that cannabigerol can prevent the degeneration of striatal neurons in the brain that the disease causes, while also promoting the restoration of the activity of key genes. Testing has also shown that CBG has the ability to reduce the clumping of mutant huntingtin, which plays a key role in slowing the progression of the disease.
Potential in the fight against cancer
CBG could be effective in fighting cancer. Research suggests that it reduces the aggressiveness and resistance of cancer cells, supports the body's mechanisms that kill these cells and prevents the formation of new ones.
Other effects of CBG
CBG has a number of other potential therapeutic benefits that make it an interesting ingredient in natural medicine and wellness products. Studies suggest that cannabigerol:
- It acts as a natural analgesic.
- It can significantly reduce blood pressure.
- It lowers intraocular pressure, which could help protect vision in glaucoma.
- It supports the health of the digestive tract, where it has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and regenerative effects.
CBG products
Although cannabigerol has long been overshadowed by the interest in CBD and THC, with the growing popularity of hemp products, the CBG range is also expanding.
CBG vape pens
Our offer includes CBG vape pens from the brands Hemnia and Cannastra.
The advantage of consuming CBG in this way is the rapid onset of effects. Unlike conventional smoking, there is also no combustion and inhalation of harmful substances that are produced during combustion.
Our vape pens are disposable - they require no maintenance and are easy to throw away after use.
In the Hemnia range you will find functional CBG vape pens Active Life and Body Protection. The Active Life pen contains 50% CBG, 25% CBD, 20% THCV and natural terpenes and is enriched with ginger, ginkgo and guarana. The Body Protection pen even contains 75% CBG, 20% CBD, terpenes, plus basil, cinnamon and chamomile.
The Cannastra CBG vape pen Galaxy Mist even contains 95% CBG liquid and will therefore be appreciated by those who want the maximum from cannabigerol.
If you're not sure which cannabinoid suits you best, consider a Hemnia or Cannastra set containing 8 different pens at a reasonable price.

Canntropy CBG preroll London Pound Cake is a rolled cannabis cigarette with 20% CBG and a freshly baked fruit cake flavour.
Other CBG products
Popular forms for consuming CBG are oil and drops. They have a long-lasting effect and are easy to dose, It is easy to incorporate them into your daily routine, as they can be taken on their own, added to drinks or meals, or applied topically to the skin.
CBG products are available in different concentrations. Usually CBG is combined with other cannabinoids such as CBD.
Other CBG products include capsules, crystals, flowers and teas.
Is CBG better than CBD? CBG vs. CBD
CBG and the popular CBD share many characteristics, yet they differ in many ways. Each of these cannabinoids will therefore be suitable for different purposes.

It is best to take CBD and CBG together. This is because when cannabinoids and other ingredients from cannabis are combined, they can reinforce and complement each other's effects, which is known as the entourage effect.
Research suggests that the cannabinoids CBG and CBD have synergistic potential, for example in the fight against cancer cells.
Conclusion
CBG, cannabigerol, is gradually coming to the fore due to its unique properties. Although its content in the cannabis plant is low, its role as a precursor to other cannabinoids is crucial.
Research to date shows that CBG has strong antibacterial properties, positive effects on skin health, can suppress inflammation, is neuroprotective and has the potential to fight cancer.
Due to its growing popularity, the availability of CBG products is constantly expanding. CBG can be taken for example through vape pens or in the form of oils and drops, capsules, crystals, flowers and teas.
