CBG, cannabigerol, is a cannabinoid naturally occurring in cannabis. Although the CBG content in the adult plant is less than 1%, it is essential for its entire development. How is CBG obtained?
Immature cannabis plants have a high content of CBGA, cannabigeroleic acid - which is transformed into cannabinoids such as CBD or THC during maturation. Only a small amount of the acid is decarboxylated when exposed to heat or UV light, losing the carboxyl group (-COOH) and turning into the active form of CBG.
