What is CBG?

CBG (cannabigerol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid naturally found in young hemp plants 🌿. Although it occurs in very low concentrations in mature cannabis, it plays a crucial role in its development — CBG is the precursor to other major cannabinoids like CBD and THC.

As the plant matures, CBG first appears in its acidic form CBGA (cannabigerolic acid), which later transforms into other cannabinoids like CBD and THC, while only a small converts into CBG.

CBG modulates CB1 and CB2 receptors in endocannabinoid system of the body.

Effects of CBG

CBG offers a rare combination of effects, including:

  • 🧴 Skin health support: Research suggests CBG may outperform CBD and vitamin C  when it comes to supporting skin health, thanks to its strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hydrating effects.
  • 🦠 Antibacterial properties: CBG has shown strong antibacterial effects, especially against gram-positive bacteria like Streptococcus mutans, which is linked to dental issues.
  • 💊 Anti-cancer activity: Early research suggests that CBG may reduce tumor cell growth, support the body’s defense mechanisms and inhibit new cancer cell formation.
  • 🧠 Neuroprotective potential: CBG may support brain health. Studies have shown its potential in treating Huntington’s disease, where it helped protect neurons from damage and supported the activity of key genes involved in brain function.
  • Other effects: Early studies suggest that CBG may also act as a natural analgesic, help lower blood pressure, support glaucoma treatment by reducing intraocular pressure and promote digestive health.
