What is CBD and HHC Moon Rock and Ice Rock?

What is MoonRock and where did it come from?

Moon Rock is made up of three ingredients - cannabis flower, concentrate and kief. Kief is the resin from the cannabis flowers, they are the shiny fine crystals that form at the tip of each trichome. Moon Rock has a high THC content - usually more than 50% on average - and its psychoactive effects are so strong that they can unpleasantly surprise even experienced cannabis users.

Moon Rock first appeared in California, and was created and popularised by cannabis mogul and legendary American rapper Kurupt (Ricardo E. Brown) and a man known as Dr. Zodiak (Daniel Laughlin), who launched the first line of moon rocks. The name Moon Rock is derived from its appearance - cannabis buds dipped in extract and encased in kief resemble a lunar landscape.

Moon Rocks in this classic form are not legal in Europe due to their high THC content, but there are legal variants that contain CBD or HHC instead of THC.

CBD Moon Rock

CBD (cannabidiol) is the second most abundant compound in the cannabis plant. It is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is popular and sought after for its therapeutic effects. CBD has the potential to relieve pain and inflammation, relieve stress and anxiety, or improve sleep. It is a well-tolerated and safe substance with no serious side effects.

CBD Moon Rock is high CBD technical hemp flowers soaked in hemp extract (CBD hash oil) and then coated with CBD kief (resin, the "pollen" from CBD hemp flowers). The CBD concentration is really high, up to 70%, which guarantees strong effects.

HHC Moon Rock and Moon Balls

We have already introduced HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) in our previous articles. It is a cannabinoid with psychoactive properties that is found in small amounts in the cannabis plant, but in practice is produced in the laboratory by a hydrogenation process, most often from CBD.

HHC can produce euphoric or relaxing effects and affect auditory and visual perception. Little is known about the effects and risks of this cannabinoid, as there have been no published studies that have thoroughly mapped HHC.

HHC Moon Rock is also produced from the flowers of high-CBD industrial hemp, which are sprayed with HHC distillate and coated with CBD-containing pollen (kief) or CBG. The CBD content is usually around 50 % and the HHC content around 30-50 %.

Another variant is the 'HHC Moon Balls', which resemble Moon Rock but have a regular rounded shape, are infused with HHC inside and usually have a soft 'rubbery' consistency.

What is Ice Rock?

Ice Rock has the same base as Moon Rock, but looks like it has been dusted with icing sugar. That's because it's not coated in kief at the end, but in a white crystalline powder - CBD isolate. CBD isolate is the purest possible form of CBD, laboratory separated from the other components of cannabis. Ice Rock can therefore have a really high total CBD content (up to 90 %).

In cannabis shops today you can find not only CBD Ice Rock, but also HHC Ice Rock.

Is Moon Rock and Ice Rock legal?

The CBD and HHC variants of Moon Rock and Ice Rock are not illegal as long as they contain the permitted amount of THC (up to 1% in the Czech Republic, usually 0.2-0.3% in other EU countries). However, like CBD and HHC flowers, these products are only sold for industrial, food, cosmetic, technical and horticultural purposes or as a collector's item in accordance with Section 5(5) of Act No. 167/1998 Coll.
